The post The Best Beauty Looks From the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, According to One tFS Beauty Writer appeared first on theFashionSpot.
]]>The 2024 Golden Globe Awards kicked off a month-long award season last night, and adorned with star-studded guests, the gala saw the A-list attendees lean into the pure unapologetic old-school Hollywood glamour of traditional silhouettes, sequins and satin in a take that felt both modern and unexpected. The beauty looks of the night proved to be quintessential ‘no-makeup makeup’ this year, completely afresh with flawless and glowing skin, with subtle flushes of color across both the cheeks and lips – and you can call us here on theFashionSpot 100% obsessed.
You’ve encountered all the must-see fashion looks of the night, now it’s time to select the best beauty looks. Scroll further for the beauty highlights:
Looking like she’s stumbled straight out of a fairy tale book, the American actress made a stunning arrival at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills wearing a silky ivory strapless gown embellished with a giant bow at the neckline. The piece is a vintage Pierre Balmain dress which features a fitted bodice and an ample skirt. To complement the look, Fanning oh so brilliantly wore a pretty natural makeup, including a subtle silver shadow, a thin black liner, and pink blush. Elle’s hair was styled into a neat, side-parted ballerina bun – ultimately becoming my absolute favorite from the night!
The Aussie actress, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, for her role as Barbie arrived in a custom Giorgio Armani Privé hot pink sequined gown along with a pink tulle boa, which Barbie fans immediately recognized as a replica of the 1977 SuperStar Barbie doll’s 50th anniversary! Margot wore her beautiful blonde tresses parted in the middle and cascading down in gentle soft waves, with flawless glowing skin and a gorgeous flush on pink on her lips. What’s not to love?
The sweeping ballerina-length, full-skirted black chantilly-laced dress the British actress wore was paired with a “protective veil” designed by Philip Tracey, selected to help conceal the wounds of a skiing accident in December. The dress from a 2019 Christian Dior haute couture collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri was selected by stylist Leith Clark. Leith accessorized the netted dress on Pike with pair of black platform sandals, ear cuffs of dazzling white diamonds and rings from Boucheron. Fair the say the veil made this look!
Mulligan channeled 1950s-style glamour on the red carpet – and with stunning results. The actress wore a vintage Schiaparelli black dress with ruching down the centre and an embellished sweetheart strapless neckline. Hairstylist Jenny Cho said the sparkly dress was the main inspiration behind Mulligan’s contrasting sleek bob.
Dressed in a stunningly vibrant floor-length red Moschino dress, adorned with jewels by swarovski, Danielle Brooks oozed old-Hollywood glamour. Looking like a time-less classic, with side swept dark copper curls, and a full glam, she was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and makeup by Rebekah Aladdin. A round of applause, please!
Making a glittering entrance at the 2024 Golden Globes Awards, the actress, who won her first Golden Globe for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Nextflix’s The Crown, donned a Christian Dior Haute Couture dress from the French fashion house’s Fall 2023 collection. Debicki wore her platinum blonde locks slightly tousled, while her makeup consisted of a nude lip and muted blush. Less is always more, right?
Can we even talk about the 2024 Golden Globe Awards without the mention of Jennifer Aniston’s new-do? The actress ultimately chose the event to reveal a new shorter-length hairstyle, with the internet (including us here at theFashionSpot) immediately reminded of the iconic ‘The Rachel’ cut. Can we get a tutorial anytime soon, Chris McMillan?

]]>And so the 2024 awards season has officially begun…
Last night, Hollywood stars descended upon the iconic Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills for the 81st annual Golden Globe awards. Stars like Margot Robbie dazzled in sequined Giorgio Armani Privé (channeling Barbie, because what else?), Taylor Swift shone bright in custom lime green Gucci while the living legend that is Meryl Streep walked the red carpet in a shimmering Dolce & Gabbana floor-length skirt and jacket. Selena Gomez had somewhat of a mini Marilyn Monroe moment before the lens of the paparazzi, wearing a ruby red dress and the even the warm Los Angeles wind understood the assignment when Hunter Schafer arrived in custom translucent Prada. Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez nailed old-school Hollywood glamour while Elle Fanning took deep in the Balmain archives to unearth and revive a vintage Pierre Balmain dress.
Needless to say, the 2024 Golden Globe Awards proved to be an absolute fashion extravaganza and we here at theFashionSpot have curated the must-see looks of the night. Scroll further our selection:

]]>The post Carey Mulligan’s Fourth American Vogue Cover Appearance for November 2023 Might Surprise You… appeared first on theFashionSpot.
]]>Throughout 2023, Anna Wintour’s choice in subjects for the front covers of American Vogue have been largely recycled faces (such as Kate Winslet) with the odd new face (like Erykah Badu and Olivia Rodrigo) thrown in for the sake of variety and good measure. Another face we’ve seen before on the cover of American fashion bible is welcomed back with Wintour’s open arms, with the unveiling of the magazine’s November 2023 edition. Carey Mulligan, now a four-time American Vogue cover girl, poses for photographer Jack Davison in the unconventional profile cover image, with stylist Tonne Goodman dressing the English actress in an intriguing dress from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Resort 2024 collection for Louis Vuitton.
Members of our forums, however, won’t be making a mad dash for a newsstand anytime soon. “I’m happy for Carey but I don’t like anything about this… I’m sure there were better cover pictures,” said kokobombon upon seeing the cover.
“What the f**k,” exclaimed mikel.
“Too much going on, huh? Nothing really stands out. This was a terrible cover choice,” echoed an underwhelmed KINGofVERSAILLES.
Vogue28 wasn’t feeling it either, adding: “One big mess and one massive blur! How the mighty have fallen, when you look back at American Vogue covers throughout the years when everything was so direct, polished and oozed a sense of glamour. The photography here is awful, as is the lighting which resembles one of those hideous Instagram filters.”
“Why are they hiding her face?” asked HodanChloe.
MON felt the same way, echoing: “Why even bother featuring her if there’s a blatant attempt to conceal her face. That’s odd. The cover leaves much to be desired.”
Take a peek at Carey Mulligan’s accompanying Vogue cover feature and share your thoughts, here.

]]>The post Must-See Looks From the 2022 Met Gala appeared first on theFashionSpot.
]]>After skipping 2020 and scaling back a bit in 2021, we expected the 2022 Met Gala to really bring the drama. Not to mention the fashion. Thankfully, we aren’t disappointed.
Continuing the theme of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” there was plenty of gilded glamour. There were corsets, structured skirts and opera gloves galore. But there were several stars who either downright ignored the theme or tried to put a modern spin on it. For example, Janelle Monáe’s Ralph Lauren look was a futuristic interpretation.
We spotted a surprising amount of cut-out accents. We were also taken aback by the sheer volume of see-through sections. (See what we did there?) Kim Kardashian certainly turned heads decked out in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Jean Louis dress.
Both Blake Lively and Sydney Sweeney did an outfit reveal on the red carpet. The former rocked two Atelier Versace creations that paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty. The latter transformed her Tory Burch gown into a minidress.
Suits were also popular. Cara Delevingne, Irina Shayk and Chloë Grace Moretz all stepped out in striking style. It was actually a welcome contrast to all the dynamic dresses.
It’s definitely worth your time to scroll down to see all the crazy, sexy and totally cool looks from the 2022 Met Gala.

]]>With a theme like “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” we weren’t sure what to expect when it came to the 2021 Met Gala. Unlike previous years when the dress code was more established, many attendees decided to go rogue. Sure, some went with patriotic options. Hence red and blue being popular choices. But a large percentage just dressed to impress, er, stand out.
There were plenty of American designers on display. Jennifer Lopez served up some real 70s glamour in Ralph Lauren. Kate Hudson’s pink Michael Kors Collection ensemble also turned heads. And Amanda Gorman’s blue Vera Wang stunner was a striking nod to the Statue of Liberty.
There was certainly a lot of skin. The naked dress was back in a big way with everyone from Kendall Jenner to Irina Shayk indulging in the trend. Others decided to flash flesh in far more strategic ways.

]]>The post Carey Mulligan Covers the March 2021 Issue of British Harper’s Bazaar appeared first on theFashionSpot.
]]>There’s change in the air over at British Harper’s Bazaar and we’re excited. Lydia Slater has been on a mission to give us fresh new cover stars lately, like Lucan Gillespie and Iman. But now the mag brings back an old favorite for March 2021. Four-time cover star Carey Mulligan was captured by Quentin Jones with Cathy Kasterine on styling duties. The actress wears a bejeweled collar coat from Miu Miu’s Spring 2021 collection for the newsstand cover shot (below) and is all smiles on the joyous subscribers’ alternative (after the jump) decked out in a look from Prada’s Spring 2021 collection.
“Looks like she is about to fall asleep,” stated mikel.
“This will put the pensioners reading this magazine to sleep,” declared an uninterested Serend1pity.
“Sleep-inducing. Wake me up when a new issue is out. Lovely colors, though. That’s just about it,” added MON.

“She doesn’t look like a ‘bad’ girl to me on this cover. More like a bored girl. Why such a dull expression for a spring issue that’s supposed to be about the beginning of a new, lively season?” asked Benn98.
Sharing the same underwhelming sentiment was dfl-001: “Mind-numbingly dull. Why do they insist on using these actresses who illicit no excitement of any kind?”
“Must admit that unlike last month’s cover subject, the sight of Carey Mulligan on Bazaar‘s second biggest issue of the year didn’t exactly make me jump for joy. Neither the newsstand cover or subscribers’ cover is offensive on the eye, but I would’ve undeniably preferred more…oomph,” noted vogue28.
EricGallais described the cover as “sad,” but do you agree?

]]>The post Carey Mulligan Transports Us to Paris With InStyle’s June 2020 Covers appeared first on theFashionSpot.
]]>You’re about to see a whole lot more of Carey Mulligan this month. Fresh off the cover of Vogue Australia, the British actress also pops up on InStyle for June 2020. Captured during Paris Fashion Week just before shelter-in-place orders came down, Carey wears a red one-shoulder Carolina Herrera number on the newsstand cover (below), while donning head-to-toe Givenchy near the Eiffel Tower for the subscribers’ alternative (after the jump) both shot by Horst Diekgerdes.
“I like the first cover. It’s a bit on the simple side, but it works for her. A phrase which pretty much sums up InStyle in general. The second one is terrible. The proportions of that dress are wrong for her height and the backdrop looks fake,” said Benn98.
“I like the first cover, she looks pretty and interesting and I don’t normally think that about her on other covers,” wrote kokobombon.

“It’s a pretty cover, there’s something classic 2000s U.S. Vogue about it,” Srdjan pointed out.
Sharing the same enthusiasm toward the newsstand cover was vogue28: “The newsstand cover has an intimate quality which I like, it’s almost like I’m sitting across the table from her in a quaint Parisian bistro. Also a fan of how well the red Carolina Herrera dress looks against Carey’s pale complexion and the red lip.”
“The first cover is OK, nothing exciting. Her face looks mid-expression or like she was about to say something. Kinda awkward. The second cover though is terrible. The outfit is questionable to begin with, but it’s so wrong for her. It overpowers her and makes her look short,” added MyNameIs.

]]>The last time Carey Mulligan covered Vogue Australia the image was definitely something to behold with the actress sporting a showstopping Giambattista Valli creation. But the Aussie fashion bible hasn’t exactly been in our good graces lately thanks to questionable Zendaya and Dua Lipa covers. Now Carey is back for May 2020 wearing Burberry picked by Christine Centenera for the cover shot captured by Josh Olins.
Carey’s latest received mixed reviews. “This is so ugly,” declared a less than impressed caioherrero.
“Where to start with this irredeemable cover? Perhaps ‘solidarity’ should’ve been capitalized at least. I would rather they take notes from Vogue Italia and U.S. Vogue and just leave the cover blank with a hashtag as opposed to Carey struggling to smile,” critiqued MDNA.

“Oh gosh, it looks HIDEOUS. The photo is a disaster: the pose, the hair, the whole vibe and the layout is atrocious. How in the world could they send this to press? Is it a school project made by interns on their lunch break? I’m shocked!” shared a dumbfounded Bertrando3.
“Obviously doesn’t have the wow factor as much as her last cover of Vogue Australia did, but I don’t mind the outcome of this at all. I’m rather fond of the minimal setup, the clean white masthead and the stark black font. An improvement from Zendaya and Dua Lipa at the very least!” voiced vogue28.
Nomar also shared the same sentiment: “The colors are lovely and she just oozes this natural elegance. One of the better Vogue Australia covers to come out in a while.”
